I can't explain how much Micah Siegel has inspired me from this interview. He completely represents the best education model I've been contemplating for years. It's absolutely clear that following your own interests is immeasurably more valuable than following a curriculum-based education model. I love that he is 12 and made his own school. I am a tutor and teach literacy and math, and I want to share this interview with my students and show them what's possible when you follow your passion and interest. I just love his critical thinking skills recognizing the manipulation and propaganda in conservation groups. Imagine what the world would be like if even 10% of kids followed their passions in this self-initiated way. The world would change dramatically for the better. Thank you so much Jerm and Micah for this most excellent interview!!

schools do not teach much these days that kids can not learn from their own kitchen table.

At this point with all of the illegal migration, it would be best if you can teach your kids at home and find interests at libraries and on line.

The schools here in the US are filled with kids that barely know English. I am sure they will excel in math and science and can be productive persons with purpose. Each family should choose what works for them, I hated school when I was a kid. Too crowded (maybe 30 kids in the class) and I just hated school.

Your vacation accommodations look much too 'campy" for me.

Your blog is amazing to read, Jerm. Thank you Micah, God Speed

The knowledge and drive of this young man is phenomenal. Thank you and look fwd to following your work. I'm going to signpost my home educating kids to Micah's Rogue scholar model. "There is a way to get out of school". Brilliant.

Ps I hated school 🏫 so I'm bias

Self directed learning should be the mainstay of education for school children and young students. If children could learn about the subjects that matter to them rather than a set curriculum [that for the most part is irrelevant] we would have a flourishing, healthier, happier, more intelligent, empowered, engaged society with excellent problem solving skills.
